Prof. Purnomo Yusgiantoro, founder of the Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center, became a speaker in the “17th Achievement Motivation Session”, held by the Indonesian Oil and Gas Downstream Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas). The event was held on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at the BPH Migas Building Hall, Jakarta. The participants were around 300 people and consisted of level I, II, III, and BPH Migas officials.
Dr. Fanshurullah Asa, Head of BPH Migas, opened the event. In his remarks, he said that BPH Migas staff and employees need to learn about the experience of a Prof. Purnomo Yusgiantoro, as the founder of BPH Migas and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (2000 – 2009). He is very experienced in the world of bureaucracy in Indonesia, with more than 15 years of experience serving as a minister in several periods of government.
In his session, Prof. Purnomo Yusgiantoro told the experience of becoming a reliable bureaucrat in Indonesia. He explained on how to be a professional, reliable, responsible, and honest civil servant. Being a civil servant in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, especially in the scope of BPH Migas, has its own challenges. BPH Migas employees focus on regulating supervision on the supply and distribution of fuel oil throughout Indonesia.
In addition, Prof. Purnomo Yusgiantoro shared his experience of leadership. He told about 15 years of experience being a minister with three times changing of president of Indonesia, including how to manage good relationships with subordinates. Then, how to carry out the policies of the President that must be implemented even if they are contrary to the conditions of the people at that time, for example, the oil price subsidy.
