Indonesia’s National Gas Company (PGN) collaborated with Innovesia held PGN Energy Startup Competition 2019. The theme for this competition was The Innovation in Natural Gas and Renewable Energy. The event located in Green House, South Jakarta, 8 October 2019. The speakers were Dilo Seno Widagdo (Commercial Director of PGN), Filda Citra Yusgiantoro (chairperson of Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center), and Muhamad Reza (Founder of Yoberbag.id and Power Expert System Tractebe).
Dilo Seno Widagdo opened the event on behalf of PGN as the host. He highlighted that the energy sector is crucial for the national economy and development. Therefore, the presence of startups in the energy sector is essential to strengthening Indonesia’s energy security. In the next section, Filda Citra Yusgiantoro delivered her speech regarding renewable energy development in Indonesia. She emphasized the importance of government’s role to speed up the utilization of renewable energy in Indonesia. She also said that startup in the energy sector was one key to catalyze renewable energy development in Indonesia.
At the final session, Muhamad Reza expressed his opinion on the electricity system in Indonesia. In his address, he said that Indonesia had the potency to develop its renewable energy according to each region’s characteristics. For example, wind energy would be in Kupang due to the wind characteristic compared to other regions. He also said, currently, the startup providing climate data would also be promising due to the needs of weather data for renewable energy development.
