On November 19, 2019, The Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC) was invited to attend the forum group discussion hosted by Coaction in Jakarta. The sustainability of biodiesel as the alternative energy source was the topic of discussion. Several issues were brought on this discussion, such as the independent farmers’ welfare, certification of the palm oil producer, and the allocation of the palm oil fund (dana sawit). It is found that biodiesel is essential to be the alternative fuel source. At the same time, the encouragement of biodiesel will help Indonesia in achieving the target of 23 percent Renewable energy mix. However, several issues mentioned should be solved to guarantee the sustainability of biodiesel. Other than that, the issues of supply and demand, technology application, and massive land-use change still haunted the future of biodiesel. As a result, the discussion would be held again in the future with broader organization backgrounds to address other issues that have a significant impact on the biodiesel sustainability.
