The year 2025 marks the beginning of a new chapter in Indonesia’s national development journey. As the first year of the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the direction of energy policy has been positioned as a strategic foundation for achieving national self-reliance. This administration reaffirms its determination to strengthen energy security and self-sufficiency as part of Indonesia’s broader vision to confront increasingly complex global challenges—an approach aligned with the national commitment to realizing resilient food and energy sovereignty.

In this context, the energy sector once again takes center stage in the national development agenda. Energy is regarded not merely as an economic commodity but as a key instrument of stability, prosperity, and national independence. Through policies oriented toward efficiency, innovation, and sustainability, the government seeks to balance the short-term need to maintain energy supply and price stability with the long-term goal of accelerating the transition toward a clean and equitable energy system.

Indonesia Energy Kaleidoscope 2025 is presented as a record of key developments throughout the first year of the new administration. Compiled by the Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC), this publication highlights eighteen major events in the energy sector that have shaped the direction of national policy—ranging from the implementation of the B40 biofuel mandate, the enactment of the revised Mining Law, and the launch of the National Hydrogen and Ammonia Roadmap, to the issuance of the 2025–2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) and the latest National Energy Policy (KEN) through Government Regulation No. 40 of 2025.

Each event featured in this Kaleidoscope illustrates Indonesia’s efforts to achieve a balance between energy security, economic self-reliance, and environmental sustainability. Amid global geopolitical tensions, commodity price volatility, and the accelerating global decarbonization agenda, Indonesia continues to take consistent steps to strengthen domestic capacity, expand resource downstreaming, and ensure equitable access to energy for all.

This Kaleidoscope is expected not only to serve as a chronicle of events but also as a reflection of Indonesia’s energy policy journey during the first year of the new administration. This year marks the start of reaffirming the vision of national energy self-sufficiency as a prerequisite for building a sovereign, sustainable, and resilient Indonesia amid a rapidly changing world.
