Focus Group Discussion (FGD) Keamanan Nasional is part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen strategic studies in the field of national security, the Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC) convened a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) titled “National Security” on Thursday, 12 June 2025. The discussion was held at the Assembly Hall of the PYC Office in Jakarta and was moderated by Dr. Edy Prasetyono, Senior Assistant Professor at the University of Indonesia and Professional Staff member of the National Resilience Institute of the Republic of Indonesia (Lemhannas RI).
The FGD was organized to support PYC’s ongoing research on “National Security: Definitions and Indicators.” Through this forum, PYC sought to gather insights and perspectives from a broad range of stakeholders in order to develop a more comprehensive, contextual, and forward-looking understanding of national security in the Indonesian context. The discussion emphasized the evolving nature of national security, which extends beyond traditional military dimensions to encompass political, economic, social, environmental, and human security aspects.
Participants in the discussion represented a wide spectrum of institutions, including government agencies such as Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, Lemhannas RI, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the National Intelligence Agency (BIN). The forum also brought together academics from the University of Indonesia and the Indonesian Defense University, as well as representatives from think tanks, including LAB 45.
Throughout the session, participants engaged in intensive and constructive dialogue, sharing perspectives on current and emerging national security challenges facing Indonesia. Key issues discussed included regional geopolitical dynamics, non-traditional security threats, cybersecurity, energy and food security, and the importance of cross-sectoral coordination in formulating effective national security policies.
The outcomes of this FGD are expected to enrich the conceptual and methodological framework of PYC’s research, particularly in developing national security indicators that are practical, measurable, and adaptable to a rapidly changing strategic environment. These indicators are envisioned to serve as a valuable reference for policymakers in designing national security strategies that are inclusive, resilient, and aligned with Indonesia’s long-term national interests.
Through this initiative, the Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center reaffirms its commitment to advancing evidence-based research, fostering strategic dialogue, and strengthening collaboration among stakeholders to support the formulation of responsive and sustainable national security policies in an increasingly complex global landscape.
