The Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC) attended the mini seminar “Geopolitics of Energy Transformation” held by the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR) on 31 July 2019 at Bimasena, Jakarta. The purpose of this event was to discuss the report “A New World: The Geopolitics of the Energy Transformation”, released by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) dan Global Commission on the Geopolitics of Energy Transformation.
The event was officially opened by Prof. Dr. Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, the Chairman of Advisory Board of Indonesia Clean Energy Forum (ICEF). Then, Dr. (H.C.) Drs. H. Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, Vice-President of the Republic of Indonesia and Prof. Dr. Subroto, Chairman of Bimasena, delivered the keynote speech. Subsequently, Prof. Dr. Mari Elka Pangestu, Lecturer at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Indonesia, highlighted some of the key information from the report “A New World: The Geopolitics of the Energy Transformation”. She presented the drivers for the increasing use of new and renewable energy and its implication on the geopolitics of Indonesia. The presentation was followed by a questions and answers session from the audiences.
The last part of the mini seminar was the panel session that was facilitated by Mr. Fabby Tumiwa, Executive Director of IESR. The panelists were Ir. Montty Girianna, M.Sc., MCP., Ph.D., Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs; Ir. Jisman P. Hutajulu, M.M., Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources; Dr. Mahmud Syaltout, Paramadina Graduate School of Diplomacy; and Hendra Sinadia, Executive Director of APBI-ICMA.
