Press Release
Jakarta, November 19, 2022 – In commemoration of Heroes’ Day, the Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center hosted a Children’s Singing Competition with the theme “Regional Songs of National Heroes.” This theme was chosen to enhance the sense of nationalism among the youth, particularly towards the heroes who contributed to Indonesia’s independence. At the Grand Final of the Children’s Singing Competition, 20 talented young finalists performed live in a variety of traditional costumes.
The competition series began with online registration in October and culminated in the Grand Final on November 19, 2022, held at the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia in Central Jakarta. The competition was divided into two age categories: Category I for ages 7-10 and Category II for ages 10-12. A total of 90 participants from various provinces across Indonesia, from Sumatra to Bali, competed. The committee selected 10 finalists from each category to perform live in Jakarta.
Each finalist presented a brief introduction about the national hero they chose and then performed a traditional song from the hero’s region. The selected songs were diverse, including “Lancang Kuning” (Riau), “Anoman Obong” (Central Java), “O Ina Ni Keke” (North Sulawesi), and “Ratu Anom” (Bali). The finalists also wore colorful traditional outfits to enhance their performances.
Opening the event, Filda C. Yusgiantoro, Chairperson of PYC, explained that this theme was chosen to encourage the younger generation to reflect on the contributions of national heroes in making Indonesia a free and democratic nation.
PYC founder Purnomo Yusgiantoro also welcomed the participants, stating, “Service to the country can take many forms, including through singing,” he expressed in his opening remarks.
The competition featured three judges: Meisye Camelia, Klaudius L. Robby Jama, both vocal coaches at Delon Vocal Studio, and Delon Thamrin, Runner-Up of the first season of Indonesian Idol. The judges were impressed by the talent displayed by the children at such a young age.
“If there are more singing competitions in the future, you should continue to participate to enrich your experiences and strengthen your abilities to deliver the best performances,” Delon advised the finalists.
Delon also performed “Indonesia Jaya” and “Karena Cinta,” alongside Meisye and Robby, captivating the audience and participants.
