The event was held on 12 October 2019 in Sabuga, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). The seminar aims to discuss on how technology advancement could improve human development. The speakers of the event were Paulus Bambang Widjanarko Santoso of PT Astra Internasional Tbk and Prof. Purnomo Yusgiantoro of the Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center.
Mr. Paulus delivered a presentation titled Industrial Role in Human Development (Astra Case). Mr. Paulus shared his perspectives on how the industry is transitioning. He highlighted the impact of the industrial revolution 4.0 to economy, business, and individual. He shared how the digital era brings a change in the growth of the industry, employment, and nature of work. The industrial revolution also changes the operating models, data-enhanced products, and the need for innovation. Finally, he addressed how the individual will face the change of required skillsets, the need for strong morality and ethics, and innovative ideas.
In the next session, Prof. Purnomo Yusgiantoro shared about the role of academics in improving human development in the industrial revolution 4.0 era. He started with a concept of the human development index, introduced by UNDP. The index measures a long and happy life, knowledge, and a decent standard of living. He also highlighted that Indonesia’s knowledge index is significantly low compared to other two aspects. Prof. Purnomo also emphasized the industrial revolution will change how the education system runs, job trends, technology changing, student behavior, and problem complexity. He encouraged the education institution should adapt to the changing, adopt the technology into the education system, and tighten collaboration with government, industry, and society.
