Prof. Purnomo Yusgiantoro, the founder of Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center was invited to be the keynote speaker in a National Seminar on Energy Economics by Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Yogyakarta. The event was held on November 28, 2019, in UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta. The topic of the seminar was “Strengthening Energy Security to Support National Security”. The National Seminar was opened by the rector of UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, Mohamad Irhas Effendi.
Prof. Purnomo Yusgiantoro, in his keynote speech, emphasized the cruciality of national security. National security is an integration of various aspects, namely geography, natural resources, demography, ideology, politic, economy, social-culture, defense and security. Meanwhile, energy security is important in every aspect of national security. National security and energy security are interrelated. The energy security concept considers four aspects, namely availability, accessibility, affordability, acceptability, to achieve sustainable energy. Indonesia’s various renewable and fossil energy potential bring the opportunity to enhance national energy security. However, some challenges need to be addressed, such as the low energy investment, lack of energy conservation and efficiency, and the dependency of fossil energy.
The seminar was continued with the presentation of Prof. Rinaldi Dalimi of Universitas Indonesia, Dr. Saleh Abdurrahman of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resource, Rustika of Indikator, Dr. Surono as a volcanology expert, and Milawarma of PT Timah. The speakers addressed different topics based on their background. Thus, the seminar successfully gave a multiperspective view of energy security to the audiences.
