Pertamina University invited Prof. Purnomo Yusgiantoro, the founder of Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center, to speak on a Studium Generale titled “Understanding Defense-Energy Relations for The International Relations Study”. The event was held in Griya Legitan Auditorium, Pertamina University, on October 30, 2019. Novita Putri Rudiany, an international relations lecturer at Pertamina University, served as the moderator for the event.
Prof. Purnomo delivered a presentation on how energy and defense sectors are interrelated. He highlighted the defense sector needs support from the energy sector, while the energy resources, especially in the border area, need a backup from the defense sector. He also pointed out the concept of sovereignty, defense strategic interest, and government foreign politics to show the perspective of the defense sector in international relations. Prof. Purnomo highlighted that the alignment of energy and defense policy is critical to achieving national security. Both defense and energy development should strengthen each other. The event was then continued with question and answer sessions with a lot of fruitful questions and discussion.
