On Friday, April 20, 2018, Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC) visited PT Len Industri’s factory in Bandung, West Java. PT Len Industri is a State Owned Enterprise (SOE) focusing on electronics needs for industry and infrastructure. The company has 5 main business lines which include renewable energy, transportation system, defense electronics, information and communication, and navigation system. To capitalize on these business lines, PT Len is supported by 5 main subsidiaries:
- PT Eltran Indonesia (Trading for energy, air and marine navigation, and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) for oil and gas)
- PT Surya Energi Indotama (EPC for Renewable Energy)
- PT Len Railway Systems (EPC for railway transportation)
- PT Len Sunseap Energy (Solar module manufacturer)
- PT Len Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Backbone telecommunication operator)
In order to cope up with the increasing renewable energy demand, PT Len dedicated two of its five subsidiaries to the renewable energy sector. With its technological competencies, PT Len produces various renewable energy products including solar modules, solar rooftop, solar street light, centralized solar power plant, and hybrid solar power plant. As a solar panel manufacturer, PT Len started solar panel development since 1997 and has been operating in many remote areas in Indonesia to provide and distribute more than 20 MWp of solar power. The solar panel factory owned by PT Len is able to produce 45 MWp of the solar panel each year.
In addition to its EPC business line, PT Len also participates in the renewable energy market as an Independent Power Producer (IPP). As an IPP, PT Len have installed a total of 35 MWp solar power plant capacity throughout Indonesia with PLTS Kupang as the largest installed capacity of 5 MWp. The Kupang Solar Power Plant operated by PT Len is currently the largest Solar Power Plant in Indonesia. PT Len also installed several solar rooftops including in several government agencies office including the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR).
Currently, PT Len is developing Len Technopark located in Subang, West Java. The Technopark will be the center of development for all the PT Len products, including the defense industry, renewable energy, communication, railway, as well as electrical component manufacturing. With the growing industrial challenges, PT Len hoped to capitalize on the opportunities which came with the challenge to further improve PT Len contribution in Indonesia’s development.
