Researcher

Responsibilities:

  1. Reviewing and approving research materials.
  2. Conducting thorough analyses and crafting comprehensive reports based on data.
  3. Staying abreast of the latest trends and studies, incorporating these insights into research.
  4. Undertaking research from technical, economic, and policy perspectives.
  5. Producing analytical reports, journal papers, and opinion pieces for PYC e-news and mass media.
  6. Acting as PYC’s representative in internal/external meetings, media articles, and national/international forums.
    Building and nurturing relationships with relevant institutions.
  7. Assisting in the publication of the Indonesian Journal of Energy and producing materials for podcasts.

Requirements:

  1. Master’s degree or higher in Environmental, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, or related energy fields.
  2. At least 4 years in quantitative or qualitative research.
  3. Experience in publishing articles in national/international media or academic journals is desirable.
    Ability to prioritize and manage work with attention to detail.
    Efficient in delivering high-quality work within tight deadlines.
  4. Self-motivated, capable of independent work and teamwork.

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE FOR INDONESIA’S CARBON PRICING AND MARKET STUDY

BACKGROUND

The Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC) is a nonprofit organization devoted to independent, in-depth research that leads to providing policy solutions and/or recommendations in research fields of energy and natural resources at the local, national and global level. 

PYC is seeking an experienced individual as a Research Associate to perform a study related to carbon pricing in Indonesia, including but not limited to scenario/modeling analysis, policy research and analysis, capacity building, etc. The position provides a flexible or full working time. Duration of contract up to 2 years with possible extension.

 

DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Support the development of carbon pricing regulations and policies;
  • Conduct analysis on the carbon tax implementation, including design of implementation roadmap for the introduction of carbon tax which covers scenario modelling, various tax base and scope, and risk management oversight;
  • Other specific activities as deemed necessary.

 

 REQUIREMENTS
  • Hold a PhD in economics, public policy, environmental studies, and other relevant backgrounds; 
  • Knowledge and understanding of climate change-related policies, e.g. carbon tax, carbon emissions trading scheme, etc. is a must;
  • Have experiences and ability to conduct high-quality research in economics, financing, modelling, and/or policy planning with a proven quantitative methodology; 
  • Demonstrated track record in contributing to research and analytical studies, especially in carbon policies;
  • Have experiences working in a team of researchers, preferably carbon pricing studies, including the Monitoring, Reporting & Verification (MRV) policies, in collaboration with many stakeholders;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English;

VOLUNTEER

Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC) offers an opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain experience of work in an independent, non-profit organization as a volunteer, and make an important contribution to the society. The volunteer work is varied and will be assigned to reflect volunteers’ skills and areas of interest. Volunteers can contribute to these areas of work: research, community engagement, publications, seminars or other events. Volunteers will gain extra skills at the end of their volunteer work. 

 

Eligibility Requirements: 

  • The candidates will have or be near to completing a degree or equivalent in universities. 
  • The candidates should be highly motivated and have excellent interpersonal skills. 
  • The candidates should be excellent in writing and speaking in English. 

 

The scheme offers: 

Each volunteer is typically assigned to a supervisor to assist them with a single project. This gives volunteers the opportunity to build a close working relationship with their supervisor and gain a real feel for the day-to-day process of working in an independent, non-profit organization. 

 

Duration and value: 

  • The volunteer work is varied and will be assigned to reflect volunteers’ skills an area of interest; 
  • A volunteer will help on a specific project for 1 month, 3 months or 6 months; 
  • Volunteers can work for a minimum of three days per week; 
  • The positions are voluntary and we will not provide a basic monthly salary; 
  • A volunteer will be assigned by one (1) supervisor; 
  • Volunteers could gain a real taste of what working in a non-profit organization is like, and make an important contribution to our many projects. In return we will provide volunteers with extra skills and a reference at the end of their volunteer work.
