Day 1

The International Energy Conference (IEC) is a biennial event organized by PYC. This year, the IEC carries the theme “Towards Indonesia Emas 2045: Aligning Energy Security, Economic Growth, and Environmental Sustainability.” The series of activities took place on 22-23 August 2025, at the Kempinski Hotel, Indonesia.

On the first day, PYC, in collaboration with the University of Waterloo under the FINCAPES Project funded by the Government of Canada, launched the Center of Excellence for Climate Finance Policy Research, Education, and Training, “RECLICKS,” aimed at strengthening the climate finance policy framework in Indonesia, particularly related to the energy sector. The Canadian Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Jess Dutton, was also present to deliver his remarks and warmly welcome this collaboration. The day also featured a CLICKS Talk session with Jeffrey Wilson, Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo, as the keynote speaker. The program continued with presentations from the Top 10 finalists of the Call for Paper Competition, who had undergone multiple stages of selection since January 2025.

Day 2

Meanwhile, on the second day, which was attended by 415 participants, several high-level officials were invited to deliver presentations in both plenary and parallel sessions. The event was opened with welcoming remarks from the PYC Chairwoman, Filda C. Yusgiantoro, who emphasized that this year’s IEC theme reflects the moment when the nation is preparing for the remaining 20 years before celebrating its centennial independence as a nation. This was followed by an opening speech from Special Advisor to the President for Energy sector, Purnomo Yusgiantoro. Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), delivered the keynote speech, stressing that collaboration among stakeholders is key to achieving sustainability, and IEC could catalyse progress by bringing together key actors. Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, also delivered a keynote speech highlighting the importance of human resource capacity building in supporting the energy transition.

The plenary session was moderated by Suryo Pratomo, Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore. In this session, Matthew David Johnson-Idan (United Nations), Xiaowei Liu (World Energy Council), Achmad Faisal Suralaga (BKPM), and Agung Wicaksono (Pertamina) highlighted the importance of balancing energy security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability as key factors in creating inclusive and sustainable development aligned with the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045.

The program then continued with parallel sessions, where participants were divided into three rooms. The first room carried the theme “Sustainable Energy as a Catalyst for Green Growth”. This session was moderated by Filda C. Yusgiantoro with five speakers: Togu Pardede (Bappenas), Anindya Bakrie (Kadin), Ming Ongkwang (Halliburton), Yinlung Teng (IEA), and Achmed S. Edianto (UNOPS).

In the second room, with the theme “Green Energy Financing,” Head of PYC Supervisory Board, Inka B. Yusgiantoro, moderated the discussion featuring Darwin Cyril Noerhadi (Indonesia Investment Authority/INA), Peter du Pont (Asia Clean Energy Partners), Hakimul Batih (OECD – CEFIM), and Ianto Jones (Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office).Meanwhile, the third room, moderated by PYC Advisory Board Member, Luky A. Yusgiantoro, discussed the theme “Workforce Development.” Speakers included Ananda Alonso Nacher (International Labour Organization/ILO), Ruly Marianti (GESIT Project), Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti (Head of Statistics Indonesia/BPS), and I Dewa Gede Karma Wisana (Universitas Indonesia).
